The Beaver Bank Kinsac Community Centre is a two-storey building that includes a large multi-purpose area with a stage, commercial kitchen, meeting rooms, program rooms, and offices for the local fire department.  This new community centre replaces one that was damaged in a fire. 

M&R Engineering was responsible for mechanical design including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection; electrical design including Lighting, Power, Communications and Security; mechanical and electrical LEED point documentation and LEED energy modelling.

  • High Efficiency Building Envelope.
  • Ground source heat pump system with variable refrigerant flow (VRF) units
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors are installed in a large multipurpose space to reduce outdoor airflow based on occupancy and save energy.
  • Heat recovery ventilators (HRV) provide ventilation to facility recovering heat from exhaust air.
  • Occupancy and daylight sensors are installed to reduce lighting energy when spaces are unoccupied or when daylight provides sufficient lighting in the space.
  • Three 50,000L underground storage tanks for fire protection, recharged by a well pump.
  • The energy model indicated 68% savings against the energy code (1997 MNECB) - Awarded all 10 EAc1 points..
