The Gordon R Snow Community Centre and Fire Station is a two storey building with a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, kitchen, entertainment room, offices and an apparatus bay.

M&R Engineering was responsible for mechanical design including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection; electrical design including Lighting, Power, Communications and Security; mechanical and electrical LEED point documentation, energy modelling and commissioning. 

Key Facts: 

  • High Efficiency Building Envelope including sandwich panel walls.
  • Water-to-water and water-to-air heat pumps are connected to a vertical bore-hole geothermal field.
  • In-floor heating is installed in the gymnasium and apparatus bay to provide a comfortable environment and reduce energy use.
  • Three heat recovery ventilators (HRV) provides ventilation to facility recovering heat from exhaust air.
  • Occupancy sensors are installed to reduce lighting energy when spaces are unoccupied.
  • A CO2 sensor is installed in the gymnasium to reduce outdoor airflow based on occupancy and save energy.
  • The energy model indicated 52% savings against the energy code (1997 MNECB).
